Finding everything you need to make your wedding day special is easy with the free wedding planner apps for iPhone and iPad. One thing the wedding planner app cannot do is to write the perfect wedding vows.
The wedding ceremony as we know it today originated, as with most things, with the Romans. It seems they were very big on ceremony. The bride and groom pledged their lives to one another in front of an assembly. Today it takes a bit more to make a legal union, licenses have to be bought. There must be an wedding officiant, witnesses and of course the verbal contract. With the way things are today some even go so far has to have written contracts as well as the wedding vows that are recited before family and friends.
     non traditional wedding venues
You can totally break with tradition by writing your own vows, but this is not as easy as you might think. You have to consider what you want to say and how the length of your monologue will affect the guests. While to you and the groom this may be sweet, many of the guests will be bored to tears by it.
Do not get caught up in soliloquies and trite clichés. Reciting a favorite passage from a Shakespeare or another poem that you find meaningful is fine. Today just about anything goes when it comes to content. Most wedding non traditional vows have to do with adding or deleting things to the traditional wedding vows. One of the biggest changes is the omission of the word “obey” in the vows.
Wedding are meant to be fun, have you ever been to a wedding that was as solemn as a funeral. Well it is perfectly okay to inject a bit of humor into the ceremony. It will make for a more memorable statement. A wedding should be a celebration of joy and humor is an excellent way to express that joy. Recalling a funny incident is a great way to express your love and to pull the audience into your world.
Here are a few reasons why you should write your own wedding vows:
  1. It gives the both of you time to slow down. Reflecting on why you are choosing to align yourself with the other person will give you a greater sense of depth to your relationship. While many want to write individual vows, think about this, you are planning to be a unit, a single entity. writing separate vows is fine but do they really show your united hearts and minds?
  2. Being on the same page as you go forward in life is very important. As you write your vows together you will see how large a gap there is in your differences if any. If there is a big discrepancy in the way you think about things there are decisions that need to be made.  One would be to try pre-marital counseling.
  3. Finding out what each of you see as vital in your relationship and what you both want your marriage to look like in the future, let’s everyone know what you both are committed to creating.
