 Firstly a list of potential caterers can be shortlisted by asking the relatives or searching on the internet. The one which suits the best according to the requirements can be approached. 
·         Secondly check for the packages they offer and decide the pricing of it. The package includes menu for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food item and services that will be provided along with it such as table decorations and number of waiters they will provide for serving guests.
·         Thirdly ensure that the caterer has a valid liquor license if in case the alcohol needs to be served in the reception. Look for a separate arrangement for the bar counter.
·         Fourthly confirm whether the caterer is backed up the liquor liability insurance. If any injury happens to a guest after over consumption of alcohol or any damage is done to third party it will covered under the liquor liability insurance. 
·         Fifth ask for their areas of involvement in the reception. Whether they work like event coordinator or banquet manager. How the guests will be welcomed and how the whole event will be supervised.
·         Sixthly assure that the caterer will be working on a single event only on the day of reception. If incase the caterer have other bookings as well the reception will be provided with the attention and staff it deserves.
·         Seventhly check whether the caterer signs a contract enforceable by the law for the deal. This undertakes that the services, labor, food and timelines will be provided as discussed pertaining to the reception.
·         Lastly discuss about the post reception cleanups like how are they going to deal with the cleaning part when the reception gets over.
